Recent events in the U.S, Australia and Europe echo what we have observed across Southeast Asia and the rest of the developing world: marginalised communities continue to be excluded from health, livelihood and full participation in society.
Our social media feeds are filled with stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people (LGBTI) and other groups used as political footballs by people who jockey for power. This underscores the urgency of our work promoting inclusion of LGBTI.
Our community is diverse and we know from experience how various groups are more vulnerable to hardship - LGBTI living with HIV, those with disabilities, trans job seekers, families, youth and senior citizens, refugees and other groups forced to live on the margins of society. For these groups finding safe places and inclusive service-providers can save lives. Growing the supply and quality of safe spaces and services is equally critical. We believe that the tech sector must do better to serve these groups.
Now as times seem dark, we take inspiration from Martin Luther King Jr. and we rally people to join us on our mission. We stand in solidarity with other grassroots groups who are marching onward to realise equality, dignity and inclusion for all people.
